Sacramento, CA – Today the Responsible Clean Air Coalition (RCAC) announced that the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce (CHCC) has joined in calling on the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to extend the Enhanced Vapor Recovery (EVR) Phase II regulation to April, 2010.

Joel Ayala, President & CEO of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce said, “The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce has joined the Responsible Clean Air Coalition because CARB’s EVR Phase II System mandate threatens to shut down 78% of California gas stations and subsequently would cripple both Hispanic owned businesses and communities all over California.”

RCAC is asking Governor Schwarzenegger and CARB to extend the EVR installation deadline to April 1, 2010. Without an extension the state will be hit with numerous unintended consequences including: closure of service stations serving inner city areas, loss of revenue for the State and increased unemployment, increased blighted areas and increased pollution and hardship on minority owned small businesses.

“The unfortunate reality is that many gas station’s in inner-cities also act as the drug store, the grocery store and in many cases the only store serving that community.” Ayala concluded, “We need immediate action to save jobs and prevent a major blow to the communities of hard-working Latino families”

The CHCC is the latest in a growing number of civic organizations from around the state to join the RCAC.  Members include small business owner from across the state, Small Business Action Committee, California Small Business Association, California Independent Oil Marketers Association, California Retailers Association, California Service Station and Automotive Repair Association, National Federation of Independent Business- California, Orange County Business Council, San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Taiwanese American Professionals, The California Alliance For Consumer Protection and many others.
